Sentence Stress in English Pronunciation - Hidemi Sato

I haven’t thought about the purpose of stress in sentences. What I learned from the video was sentence stress is flexible. There are mainly 2 purpose to have stress words. Firstly, they can make English sounds much better and more natural. Stress can be divided into 2, which are content words and grammar words. Native speaker usually exaggerate the contrast content words (stress words) syllabus slightly, and that help others to make it easier for hearing sentence clearly. For instance, stress words should be pronounced more loudly, more clearly, and more slowly, whereas unstressed words are pronounced at a lower volume and a higher speed. Another purpose is to contradict or correct someone. Adding extra stress can emphasize one idea in the sentence, if I do so, I can show my expression to others in a direct way.

    I learned what you found in this video. Sentence stress is used when we want to emphasize the word or phrases, so it is useful for us to know which parts of the sentence the speaker want to tell us the most.

    I learned two kinds of words, content words and grammer words. They are very important to communicate with others because it make sentence easy to understand.

   I think that the advantage and disadvantage of surveillance technology is the debatable problem. In my opinion, the technology of the CCTV camera makes our life much safer.   I think surveillance technology is necessary for our safety. However, it can be dangerous thing.  That technology is very useful to prevent crime and keep cities safe. In fact, there are so many CCTV cameras all over my country. And I have never been involved in crime. That tells us thanks to them, we can live more peacefully. However, some of them make me uncomfortable. For example, when I realize that someone is watching my movement, shopping habits and myself, I feel scared even if I don’t have nothing to hide. In other words, I worry that someone can identify me if my personal information is leaked.  In short, surveillance technology is important, but I feel that our privacy may be invaded.

   Today's market was fun because there were a lot of shops. I saw accessory shops and clothes shops and tried a game, too.  It was the most interesting that many of the accessories were made by people. Both of the students and the sellers seemed to enjoy the market.  I felt this market was one of the interesting cultures for the students and the local people in New Zealand.
